    I only found out about this in the 5 or 6 months. I find it works well if the surfaces I am mating are in the view direction. If I need to rotate the view, I can't do it. I use this technique in conjuction with mate macros.

    Yes, there are a few limitations when mating some surfaces, but I can usually still use the technique to place the first couple of mates between components. It rocks for fasteners, tho!
